Defensive Shooting class

Class covers:
• Awareness training
• Handgun as Personal Protection
• Safe Handgun handling skills (including Drawing from Holster)
• Shooting drills
Class length:
• Three to four hours
Fee:
• $60 for class
Equipment needed:
• Centerfire Handgun
• Eye and Hearing Protection (Preferably electronic to allow the student the capability to hear commands)
• 200 rounds of factory ammunition.
• Strong-side belt holster and Belt (magazine holders strongly recommended)
• Minimum of 2 spare magazines (magazine holders strongly recommended)
• Baseball cap (to deflect spent brass and keep the sun out of your eyes)
• Concealment wear; could be a lightweight jacket, or shooting vest (not required - preferred) (cover shooting from concealment if time permits)

This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of defensive hand gunning similar to first-level courses taught at the major shooting academies.  “Defensive shooting” was specifically designed to supplement the Texas LTC course, which covers the legal and psychological aspects but includes no instruction in the gun handling and shooting skills essential to successful self-defense.  
Put more simply: this course is for the Texas LTC holder who is interested in additional training but wants a less expensive, locally available, one-day course that doesn't require him (or her) to sit through one or more days of review of material covered in Basic Pistol and Texas LTC.  “Defensive shooting” is an excellent standalone course, and is a popular preparatory or review course for past (or future) students of other schools.

Topics: review of gun safety and shooting fundamentals, drawing from the holster, malfunction clearing, reloads (slide lock and tactical), techniques to speed up follow-up shots and target acquisition, shooting on the move, discussions on use of cover and concealment, and generally developing proficiency with the handgun under stress. (Optional instruction could be “drawing from concealment” if time permits)
